Manuel, Buenas Tardes means Good Afternoon and Buenas Noches means Good Evening. Am I correct?
As Alib said we were taught spanish in college that's why some Filipinos my age knows a little spanish but not me because I can't remember the spanish I learned from school. The generation before us and way back in 1800 to 1900 some if not most Filipinos speak spanish. My father used to speak spanish when he was still living.
Salsa for us is the latin dance like the ChaCha, Merengue, Tango, Samba, Rumba, Fox Trot, Pasa Doble means Paseo Doble, Bolero, Boogie means Jive and more. Well I dance those latin dances.

Well Buenas noches would be Good night, we use tha same for Good Afternoon and Goog evening, it is Buenas tardes.
Salsa for us is also the Latin Dance: All the names of dances that you quote (except Fox Trot and Boogie) are Spanih names, but we usually say ChaChaCha. And we say Paso Doble whose meaning is Double Step. That is the dance most danced in popular partys (called verbenas). Almost every Spaniard of some age knows how to dance it.That dance is a truly Spanish one, the rest come from latin America, except perhaps Rumba which is a dance danced by Spanish gipsies (but, please, I am not an expert) and almost no Spaniard can dance a Rumba.
Merengue is a Latin American Dance but also in Spanish means a special type of cake.
Well, this is not chess but it also very interesting. Manuel.
Lucky you to know all these dances!!!!!

I learned chess as ajedrez, bishop as alfil, rook as torre, cabayo as knight, pawn as pion. Spain must have brought chess to the Philippines. And there are 2 places in the Philippines where pidgin Spanish are spoken. The dialect is called chabacano. It is unfortunate we have lost the ability to speak Spanish. A very beatiful and romantic language. Buenos dias Senor Manuel.

Buenos dias Senor Razoman: All your words for chess are ok, but it is caballo in Spanish, pawn is Peon. Also to castle es enrocarse and check is jaque. We use two names for Queen: Dama y Reina. Opening is Apertura. Stalemate or draw is tablas. Pieces are called Piezas or Trebejos (old name). Board is Tablero.
In fact,. Senor is written with the Spanish letter called EÑE (as in ESPAÑA, i.e. Spain) but now I am in England and it is difficult to use that letter (no EÑE in the keyboard). So the correct way is SEÑOR (Mister), SEÑORA (Mistress), ...

I think cabayo was written as spoken as caballo is pronounced without the "l's". Queen is reyna. Castling is enroke, draw is tabla, pieces are piyesa. So my chess has a lot of Spanish influence in it. So come to the Philippines, you will not be a stranger here
