I'll take exception to that, since I do care a great deal about proper usage and syntax. However, I must acknowledge that public schools in the US no longer teach grammar very well at all, so both male and female Americans tend to be lacking in that area. I'm 58, and we spent a great deal of time studying grammar in elementary (some call it "grammar") school in the fifties and sixties. Of course, we never studied sex, so we had plenty of time for grammar, math, etc.  Just 5 years behind me, things were already changing quite a bit. They've only become worse since then.  The twenty- and thirty-somethings that know grammar well these days seem to have come from private schools or were home-schooled.
