WhyBish, first I play d3. My opponent usually responds with developing a knight, and then I respond with f4. Remember, I'm trying to get "around" the Scandinavian so I can play KIA. Since f4 gets played eventually, I usually like to play it early, rather than take 2 moves (f2-f3-f4) to make it. That's not the main-line KIA, but I "developed" it on my own, later to find that it is an acceptable minor line. What problems do you see with it long term? I see my light-squared bishop is "bad", but it can still help defend the king at g2, with a potential long sweep later in the game. Any help would be appreciated.

Very interesting; this is being identified as a variation of the Bird called the Williams gambit. There appears to be a small underground following of this gambit and even a book on it from Williams himself! :-O

I'm curious, how do you respond to 3. ... dxe4 ?

This game is an interesting example even though its not the exact variation you use:

One thing is for certain: your Scandanavian playing opponent is not expecting this! :-D

Whereas, when I used to play the Scandanavian, this position used to make me sad and depressed:

Although, now that I've started using the London system, I recognize that a timely Bf5 here would be quite nice... 8-)

I don't see how 3...dxe can come about. In your examples, white never moves his QN, which I normally do on move 2;

1.e4 d5 2.Nc3 d4 3.Nce2 e5 4.d3 Nf6 5.f4

You lose two whole tempo moving the knight twice plus the fianchetto... :-/

Its almost like I'd rather go d4 (Blackmar-Diemer Gambit) :-O

I kinda like this position better?? ?:-(

I might lose one tempo moving the N twice (although it's heading to the king-side for a KIA-like attack); where is there another one? And there is no fianchetto involved yet, unless you're talking about your second position. If you count tempos in that second position, BTW, his dxe removed the tempo you had invested in the e-pawn, so you lost a tempo, too. In either case, they're two very different openings. I don't like the second one, particularly with a backward pawn already on the 3d move.
