Looking further I can only find one master game with the f6 and the exf lines, not a large enough sample size but amusingly the f6 line won for black, and the exf won for white

Sorry guys ... but after 1. e4 d5 2. Nc3 dxe4 3. Nxe4 Qd5 White's best move is almost certainly 4. Nc3 and we have ... surprise, surprise ... a Scandinavian!

Yeah, but weren't we talking about meeting d4 with Ne2?

Indeed you are (and the same position occurs in the Dunst [1. Nc3 d5 2. e4]) but as the argument seemed to arise from the point that 2. Nc3 was a good way to create a semi-closed game, I was begging to differ. But I may have totally misunderstood what you are getting at.

Oh, well in that case I'd question why someone wanting a closed game is playing e4 in the first place
