Yes I've been thinking about that other knight on over to the kingside like you say...
You don't fianchetto the bishop? (in that case the knight has to move 3 times just in the opening for you to complete development)
Do you get many players able to do an f6 before you're able to open it up?

If you meant fianchettoing the bishop after the moves shown, I didn't realize you had that in mind. I did say "yet", though. A for f6, the knight is currently there.
At any rate, this is probably why it's said that you can't play the KIA in response to 1...d5. I'm not saying this is a perfect solution, just that it's what I have so far. That's why I asked for suggestions against it. Your last imbedded board did offer an alternative. Thanks.

It was interesting to explore the possibilities.

Well, you are definately out of book! The problems I'd see for this position with white though would be that after d3 black can reinforce the centre with Nc6 then f4 f6. White has issues with his minor piece placement the kings bishop is bad, but the 'good' queens bishop has issues, blacks pawn chain makes kingside placement impossible, fianchetto stares at rock and blacks king bishop already controls a3-f8. For black to castle queenside the knight on e2 will probably need to make way for the queen, and if black wants to castle kingside it will need to make way for the kings bishop (a fianchetto would make the kingside very airy) i.e. the e2 knight shouldn't count as being developed as it probably needs to make a third move. The white pieces mobility issues suggest that long term black can switch wings faster. Maybe the minor piece dev is not an issue with the centre being blocked, but black doesn't have the same difficulties.

Not that I trust engines with non-book openings, but the two I have suggest that 5f6 would just be a small edge to black, but other moves give black a larger edge. They seem to rate exf, which I don't trust as it seems to help white out (f4 square for piece, queen bishop more options, half open f-file, 2vs1 central pawns and after an eventual c3, maybe white can get a central pawn roller) in return All I see black getting is the e5 square for a piece? but maybe I'm too classical?
