tewald,
I am unsure about WWI, however WWII was over religion. Hitler did not like the Jews. It was as plain and simple as that...

about Hitler :
- yes, he hated the Jews, but not because of their religion, because he considered them as "untermensch", that is, belonging to a "race" he considered as "inferior class 1", just like he thought other human categories were inferior, and had to be destroyed, as : black people, disabled people (who were the first persons on whom "massive destruction devices" such as gaz, were experimented), homosexual people (especially men...), and gypsies.

- WW2 has begun not for religious reasons, but because of another nazi "theory", named "Lebensraum", that is to say, Aryans (the "superior race"), had to rule the world, and needed for that more "place to live". The plan was to rob "place" to "inferior races class 2" (such as russians, and mediterranean nations, who were not to be destroyed, but to become slaves), take from them anything that the nazis needed (money, agriculture, industries, and so on), and "unify the Aryan Nations" (among them, Austrians and some Nations from the Northern Europe) to create a "thousand years Empire".

The Anschluss (occupation of Austria), in 1939, has been the first step of this plan (unification), and has been the starter of WW2. But...the elimination of the Jewish people (and other "inferior races") who lived in Germany had began much more sooner (in 1934).

That is why you cannot say that WW2 began for religious reasons.

ah ben ça alors....
C'est pourtant bien connu (du moins dans les campagnes françaises, LOL!).

Mais si tu as un doute, tu la trouveras en bonne place dans les pages roses du Petit Larousse, rubrique "citations et proverbes".

Good grief, Nerdling, sure he hated the Jews but that wasn't just a religion thing. If you were of Jewish descent he wanted you dead, even if you had converted to Christianity. Even without that, though, hating Jews was a side issue; he wanted to conquer the world and most of the world is not Jewish. You have a very distorted view of WWII.
